Troop 75 Newsletter Sponsor: Boulder Breakfast Optimist Club, Space Donated by Boulder Valley Church of Christ Committee Meetings 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Church, 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 20 Happy Birthday!! Carl Perry 6/2 Jason Sinkey 6/4 Mitch Stepleton 6/10 Nick Gervasi 6/16 Ben Reeves 6/21 Eric Hay 6/27 BDSR We're all paid up for 20 folks. Adults who are going up for a day or two (< 72 hours) just need the one page of the medical form, you long-term camper adults need both sides. Longs Peak Council web page has forms online. Philmont '01 All Philmont '01 folks need to be at our first official meeting on Monday, June 12, right after our regular troop meeting. We'll issue the first official rosters and discuss how to prepare for this most excellent trip. By the end of June each participant should have paid $300. Good news ñ scouts will only need to pay the $395 fee plus expenses, because all adults have agreed to pay the full fee. Chair's Corner: I need a few adults to step forward and take a more active role. One great way to volunteer time is to participate in Boards of Review. You'll get a feel for what a young scout experiences as he faces several adults and reviews his progress. It's a good way to get to know other scouts in the troop and it gives you a little insight into what awaits your son in terms of advancement. Boards last about 20 minutes and we usually have 10 or so each quarter. Like to do word-processing? We need a Newsletter writer. We have templates in MS Word for the layout and mailing labels, so it's a matter of attending PLC meetings, gathering news items, then formatting and mailing the document. Don't mind doing paperwork? How about being the person who makes sure each outing has a proper Tour Permit? Every troop outing requires a tour permit in order to have insurance coverage. It's not terribly hard work ñ it just takes a person who can swing by the Scout office on 55th and Arapahoe and fill out a 1- page document describing the outing. Like to help the scouts learn leadership? How about volunteering to be the adult supervisor of one of our many Troop Positions? Scout positions include troop guide, librarian, historian, quarter-master, SPL, etc. It really helps the scouts to have an individual who taps them on the shoulder every few weeks and asks, "SoÖ how's your work going?" Is your son's patrol Adult Leader also on the committee? Then help them out by becoming more active in your son's patrol. It is always difficult for a patrol when the adult leaders are also on the committee. Or how about you join the committee and let the adult leader concentrate on your patrol? Here are the words: Softly falls the light of day, As our campfire fades away. Silently each scout should ask, Have I done my daily task? Have I kept my honor bright? Can I guiltless sleep tonight? Have I done and have I dared, Everything to be prepared? Good night Scouts! ------------------------------------------------------------------- TROOP 75 NEWSLETTER 140 - 30th Street Boulder, CO 80303 Troop 75 -1- June 2000
